MBP to Composite, input delay?

I'm putting together a kind of DIY VJ setup, combining my Macbook with other inputs through an older digital mixer (only RCA inputs). I have some browser-based visuals that react to the mic input. For testing, I got a cheap HDMI to RCA converter, which does the trick for testing the laptop output into the mixer. The only thing is there is a noticeable delay, around 100ms, just enough to throw off the audio input.

I'm hoping VGA to RCA would be a faster conversion, but just wanted to ask before...
